About Feed the Garden Within You
What if the key to better health, focus, and energy was already sitting on every student's lunch tray they just didn't know it? Feed the Garden Within You was created to answer that question. This project bridges the gap between cutting-edge microbiome research and the everyday food choices middle schoolers make.
From Research to Reality
My journey into the world of gut health began in the most unexpected way: a science fair project that turned into a lifelong fascination. As a student at Del Norte High School, I found myself drawn to the complex, invisible world of the microbiome. What started as reading 'Eat Dirt' in the 8th grade quickly evolved into rigorous research and data analysis.
Through my work at the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair, I discovered that science doesn't have to be clinical or intimidating. I saw how data could tell a story, one about the tiny organisms that keep us healthy and the powerful impact of the food we eat every single day.
The 'Feed the Garden Within You' project was born from this intersection of science and education. I realized that the best way to help other kids understand their health was through a simple analogy. Just as any gardener knows that healthy soil grows lush and beautiful plants, I wanted students to see themselves as the caretakers of their own inner ecosystem.
Today, this project brings that science to life through visual modules and interactive activities. By connecting my expertise in data analysis and EarthLab experience with the needs of our community, I am dedicated to showing every student that the fertilizer for their health is already right there in front of them.
Our Science-Rooted Mission
The core of our mission is to empower youth through the lens of science and storytelling. By using the garden analogy to explain the complex world of the gut microbiome, we make internal health visible and manageable. We believe in the power of small things to make a transformative difference. Above all, we are committed to listening to children's voices, ensuring that health education is not just taught to them, but resonates within their own experiences and discoveries.
